Pat McGrath, the pioneer of this kooky-sounding, but glamorous-looking trend introduced the world to glitter lips in 2009, at an Atelier Versace runway show. Like an alchemist of her own trade, she sprinkled gold dust over crimson lips and so, at the touch of a brush, a trend had started. Ever since then, glitter lips have brightened up runways for names like Vuitton and FeintyxPuma , and the beautiful faces of models like Naomi Campbell and Chrissy Teigen.
After being an edgy runway statement for years, fall-winter 2016 is officially the season for everyone to rock the look. Trends are declaring war on the tame, safe-side of make-up this year, and Pat McGrath has got on board, with her newly launched Lust 004 Lipstick Kit:
“I wanted to create the ultimate editorial kit that takes you from nothing all the way to the most extreme, jeweled, three-dimensional mouth.”
It comes with a choice of three five piece sets, containing a vinyl gloss, molten gold powder, a jar of glitter, and two complementary lipsticks to be blended freely, all packed in the prettiest pink sequin-filled pouches. According to Pat, you can create up to 30 different shades using just the two colours provided, and then just let the ultra-fine sparkle give your lips a spectral, crystallized appearance.
“I love the fact that it’s called Lust,”- Pat continues-“Because that’s how we are over lipsticks, aren’t we? We just have to have them.”
How to wear glitter lips? Confidently. Tone down the rest of your make-up, wear uncomplicated monochrome outfits and…let your lips sparkle. Literally.
It’s time to stop playing it safe when it comes to beauty. We are all stardust – let’s shine.
